EP.1 of the Tulips Bloom Quilt Series

Blooming Beginnings - Here we are on Episode 1 of the Tulips Bloom Quilt Series on YouTube. I have been living and breathing this quilt for what seems like an age. When I decided to make a series of this quilt I mapped out all of the possible episodes I could, which is basically listing all of the stages that go into making a quilt.

I did manage to whittle it down to 8 episodes, and I am really pleased with how it has turned out.

This quilt pattern is an easy quilt pattern. The Tulips Bloom quilt series is for all quilters, and really great for beginner quilters, looking for a beginner quilting guide.  In this series we cover quilt making tips, fabric selection for quilts and quilting techniques for starters.

So - the first episode is about choosing your fabrics, and the fabrics that I have chosen.

I'm using Bella Solids by Moda Fabrics. Here are the names of the fabrics I am using:-

Charcoal

Raspberry

Cantaloupe

Amelia Green

Shamrock

I will be making this in another colourway for Sewing Street, and it will have a lovely pale pink background to it, with deep burgundy tulips and dark green stems.

Now I have spoken about the fabrics I am using, let’s talk about your fabric selection.  What type of tulips quilt do you want?  Are you looking for something bright and bold or a springtime meadow style of quilt?  You may be drawn to soft pastels or rich deeper colours.

You might want to mix some prints to your backing fabric and create a tulip garden with some rich greens.   If you mix some prints with your solids this will add a depth to your quilt.

You could use a selection of blender fabrics.  The Bumbleberry collection by Lewis and Irene have a vast range of colours for you to use.  One of my favourite collections of blender fabrics are the Linen Texture fabrics by Makower.  There are some beautiful greens in that particular fabric collection

The Tulips Bloom quilt pattern would also look great with some peach tulips, and a soft mint background.

I recommend that you take your time when choosing your fabrics and enjoy this part of the process.

Don’t forget there is a playlist for this series and if you subscribe to my YouTube channel you won’t miss an episode.

I hope you enjoyed this video and I would love to hear if you are going to join me in making this quilt.
