make a mini tomte quilt

Do you want to make a mini Tomte quilt? or wall hanging?

all you need to do is follow the pattern for the large Tomte quilt, and in this blog I will give you the fabric requirements to make the mini.

The Tomte Quilt Pattern

For my mini Tomte I cut 1.5 inch unfinished squares, and trimmed the half square triangles to 1.5 inches.

The finished quilt top will measure 20 x 30 inches.

YOU WILL NEED: -

     Background = 2/3 Metre or Yard

     Hat = FQ

     Body = FQ

     Hat and pom pom trim = Fat Eighth

     Nose = 2.5 strip

     Beard = FQ

     Feet = 2.5 stripe

I made this using Vlieseline’s quilters grid, which definitely helped me with my accuracy on such smaller squares.

Part of the Tomte quilt laid out on Quilters Grid.

If you want to make a mini Tomte, the pattern will need to be amended. Each square will need to be cut to 1.5 inches, and the squares for the half square triangles (hst’s) will need to be cut to 2 3/8 inches prior to make up the hst’s. You can then follow the HST diagram in the pattern, but remember to trim each piece to 1.5 inches.

Once you have everything cut, you can then make the quilt as per the sewing instructions in the pattern.

Look how neat these points are……

If you do make the mini version of the Tomte then please do send me a picture, I love to see all of your makes and I can add it to the Lookbook, where other quilters find lots of inspiration.

Happy quilting.
