making a mini hare quilt.

Have you got one of my quilt patterns and wondered how to make it as a mini quilt or a wall hanging?

My patterns are written for one particular size in mind. However, they are easy to upsize or downsize, and I have been making a few mini quilts lately and wanted to share with you the fabric requirements of the mini hare.

The Hare quilt pattern normally measures 40 x 58 inches, and this one I have downsized to 20 x 29 inches, making all of the squares 1 inch finished squares. This is a perfect size for a Spring quilted wall hanging.

You will need 1 metre of background fabric, and 1/2 a metre of the hare fabric.

Each square will need to be cut to 1.5 inches, and the squares for the half square triangles (hst’s) will need to be cut to 2 3/8 inches prior to make up the hst’s. You can then follow the HST diagram in the pattern, but remember to trim each piece to 1.5 inches.

Once you have everything cut, you can then make the quilt as per the sewing instructions in the pattern.

I don’t add the backing and binding measurements to my patterns, but if you did want to make this mini then I would recommend 1 metre for the backing and 1/4 metre for the binding, and that will give you a little left over.

The fabrics I used for the pink hare are all Tula Pink, the background fabric is from the Tiny Dots collection, the Hare is Curiouser and Curiouser Baby Buds and the binding is turquoise and lime green on Tiny Stripe.

If you are interested in making other mini quilts from my patterns please do get in touch and I will write another blog for that particular pattern.

Happy quilting, and don’t forget to send me your pictures of your makes and I can add them to the Lookbook
