The inside of the little boat

Let’s chat about the inside of The Little Boat.

I absolutely love being in here. It is my place to work, design, create and experiment with fabrics. It’s lovely in the summer and so cosy in the winter with the log burner on.

It was important to me to be able to see my lovely things, so I have plenty of jars on shelves, and boxes full of fabric, that I have easy access to.

Here is a pic of the inside of the boat. You can see that I have a dedicated cutting area on one side of the boat, and my sewing machine on the other side of the boat.

I also wanted somewhere cosy to sit, I decided on a beanbag so I can move that about and it doesn’t take up too much room. There is also a bench underneath the zebra print blanket, full of quilts, and Bella my Labradoodle has claimed this spot for her when she joins me in The Little Boat - not that dogs are allowed on the furniture……..

I sourced some old fashioned looking shelf brackets. I wanted to create a feel of a modern airy white studio with a few old fashioned touches.

I ideally wanted a large glass trophy cabinet full of my fabric so I could see it all easily, however we couldn’t find one to fit inside The Little Boat, and with the change in temperature I thought it would be best to opt for plastic storage boxes, so the fabric is protected, as it can get really cold in there in the winter if the fire isn’t on.

The back of TLB has a lovely big deck area, and I really wanted a place to be able to sit out in the summer with a small garden. My mum had given me some blue pots that she no longer wanted, and I have filled them with perennials, and grasses, I bought myself a recycled mat to cover the engine boards, and there are fairy lights hanging around the rear deck rail. It really is a special place to sit.

I also wanted to show you the log burner - such a great source of heating in the winter, but I am hoping that winter doesn’t arrive to early this year. It is currently a great place for the plants to hang out.

So, here was my little tour of the inside of the boat. I hope that I can keep it this tidy now.
