Navigating creativity

Ever wondered how I create my videos and tutorials on The Little Boat? I have made a video just for you to watch, showing you my set up for recording videos.

It’s not all pretty behind the scenes, there are bars on the ceiling of The Little Boat (TLB), and camera holders hanging down, along with lights for videoing, but it is starting to work for me.

When we first started kitting out TLB, I knew that I wanted to be able to record some of my quilting and sewing processes, and I realised that I wouldn’t have the space for cameras with tripods on either the floor or on the worktops. I asked Mr Perks if he could make a bar and attach it to the ceiling that ran from one side of the boat to the other. Mr Perks is really handy with a welder, so knocked it up in no time at all, and came home the same day with it custom made and sprayed in black paint.

This worked really well, but soon I realised that I need a bar on the side my sewing machine is, and for it to run the length of my workspace. I wanted to be able to record in just more than a couple of spots.

I tried a whole bunch of different camera holders, until I found this one. The swan neck holder. I really like this camera holder, it has got the longest arm on it that I could find, and as you see I have two of these now. They are great for pulling into different places, and are really flexible. I have listed the link to this holder at the bottom of this blog.

I will let you watch the video to show you in more detail the set up.

My video and recording set up on The Little Boat

In the video I also talk about my new microphone, which I absolutely love. It didn’t cost too much, and comes with two microphones. I attach it to my phone when I am recording and the sound quality is so much better. I have also used this in my monthly zoom sessions, and attach it to my laptop. It works so much better for me, and the best thing is there are no wires for me to get caught up in.

I have listed the amazon affiliate links below for some of the equipment I am using:-
